Mike Ponella

Mike Ponella is another stalwart on the local New York scene having been the leader of Anthem (a featured band on the Uncle Floyd Show in the 1980’s) as well as his original project, The New York Pedestrians. He also fronts nightclub fave Maxwell Silver making many appearances in night spots on Long Island's south shore.
Mike was also a "John Lennon stand-in" in the early days of the Broadway show "Beatlemania". Says Mike, "The Producer loved my singing but he didn't like my afro so he fired me! Maybe I should have had a haircut...or maybe all of them cut!"
Mike is the only member of The Liverpool Shuffle that has actually been to Liverpool. Says he, "I took the tour ... been to all their childhood homes. Even been to Abbey Road Studios. It was a thrill for sure. I think someday we should all get over there."
Another life long Beatle devotee, his encyclopedic knowledge of John Lennon's quips and one-liners is amazing and his impersonation of John Lennon's speaking voice is dead on. Actually he does a pretty amazing McCartney as well. In addition to his fine guitar playing and singing, Mike brings an uncanny and rare comedic sensibility to the group.
Mike is also a songwriter and you can hear and purchase some of his songs at Broken Joey Records. (www.brokenjoeyrecords.com)
